Chester Hawkins (Washington DC) began BLUE SAUSAGE INFANT in 1985 as an experiment in modern-day audio Dadaism (via musique concrete and tape-collage) and has evolved it into an ambitious laboratory of "psychedelia" in many forms. Using an ever-changing arsenal of electronics, acoustics, and handmade objects, the stated purpose is to create deep and elegant trance states with a glaze of paranoid tension: a teetering balance of euphoria and terror. Blue Sausage Infant's 2011 album "Negative Space" was nominated for best "Experimental Music" release at that year's Qwartz Awards in Paris.
Past collaborators in recordings and live performances include J. Surak (Violet), Dave Newhouse (The Muffins), Thee Maximalists, Insect Factory, Pilesar, Gary Rouzer (Nine Strings), Reanimation, Changes To blind, Haunted Toilet, New Carrollton, Stolen Government Binder Clip, Lida Husik, and others...
The "Blue Sausage Infant" project was officially killed as of the 9feb13 performance at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center in Silver Spring, MD. So after 28 years, the Infant is dead. But the noise will carry on under Chester Hawkins' name after the Spring of 2013. For now, watch the Hawkins site on Soundcloud [here] for sketches of new sonic ideas, and links to future developments...... and thanks for the support all these years.....

DECEMBER 2012: A COOLING-BOARD BACCHANAL
Digital / download-only release, now available on the Zeromoon netlabel [LINK] ... New studio material recorded Sept-Dec 2012. This is (arguably) a more focused package than previous releases: The mood is a little colder, more guiltlessly synth-based. But deep...
Astral drones, dirty analog stomp, sinister tone-poems. No collaborators this time; it's a more concentrated, personal series of sonic experiments.
Sequenced as if it were a classic vinyl LP (think Sky label, circa 1980), so if the bread rolls in, this MAY be re-issued on der wax. But get the thing now, it's a 75-megaton tablet of out-there...

MANITOU: AVAILABLE NOW
Following the extended kosmische excursions of 2011's "Negative Space," this year's "Manitou" is a different beast for shorter attention spans: Everything from dark drones to mutant caffeinated space-punk, audio collage, space-rock, distorted industrial stomp, analog nasty fun. Includes a remake of 1990's "The Moss Takes Over." Available as CD & mp3 via Alrealon Musique [here].
"Excellent music for some late night beer drinking and dope smoking - if only such things were allowed. Another fine album indeed." -- Vital Weekly

DISTRICT OF NOISE VOL.4
Released by DC Sonic Circuits to support the 2011 DCSC festival of experimental music. Blue Sausage Infant's contribution (Gemüsemaschine) is a dense motorik overdrive number with fuzzed-out bass mantras, reckless keyboards, and circular rhythms.
Compilation also features Borborites, Music From the Film, Safe Fast & Effective, Pilesar (who also contributed percussion to the "Negative Space" LP), Violet, TL0741+Anthony Pirog, Nine Strings Trio, STYLUS, Insect Factory, and Janel Leppin.
It's a brilliant summary of the current DC experimental music scene, pressed on 180g vinyl. One for the ages.
